My wife Lee and I have been visiting Chincoteague for the past 25 years. We love your Island and your people. Our night spot is
Chincoteague Inn... Your carnival is terrific! Wish we lived closer. Best Wishes for year 2000!

I just wanted to say that we have been vacationing in Chincoteague since I was 8 years
old, I'm now 31 and hope to some day own a home there. It is the only place to vacation! I like the peace and quiet
that you find there. It's the only place so close to the beach that is still
smalltown. I hope that it stays that way!!! I can see lots of changes taking place, and I just hope that people don't lose sight of the fact that most
people like to vacation there because it's quiet and peaceful, without a lot of people!!!

We come to Chincoteague at least once a year and enjoy every moment there. We had the wonderful experience of viewing the most picturesque sunset on
Chincoteague that we have ever seen about three years ago. We love your Island and hope to own a place to call our own there
some day. See you next year.

My family and I have loved the ponies and the area for more than thirty years. My fondest memory is buying the most wonderful
oyster sandwich from a street vendor during penning time in the 1970's. Yours is a wonderful place!

We spend our summers on your beautiful island and have since 1969. We sincerely hope the bridge won't land on
Maddox, it would be a big mistake. Coming onto the island would not be the anything at all
like it is now. Quaint , the small village feel, can't wait to shop there. On
Maddox first timers would not see the downtown. We think it would really hurt the shops. The beach isn't the only thing to see and do on
Chincoteague.

This is my favorite place on earth. My family has been coming here for close to 30 years. Now that the children are grown
and there are just the two of us, we are thinking of moving here or some place very
near. It is just wonderful.

I own a copy of Mrs. Rew's book given to me by my parents, Alice May Powell &
H. Marvin Jester who were native Chincoteaguers. I spent many happy summer weeks at my
grandmother's home in Deep Hole & dreamed of living in the lighthouse keeper's home on
Assateague.

We have been making annual trips to the islands since 1993. The island is
wonderful, please do not give in to the commercialism. If that's what people want let them
go to Ocean City or Mrytle Beach. The website is great, my daughters (4 and 7) love it!!
It one of their most requested!!

Hi!!! Just wanted you to know that Chincoteague has a special, special meaning to me. Even
though I'm only 36 and have never been to visit the land, it's a part of my history. It
started with Ocraw Brinney.. My grandfather was the late Rev. Isaiah Glenn. His mother was
a full-blooded Cherokee Indian and lived down there. There is a family burial land there
also.

I had plans to visit Chincoteague for several years and kept putting it off.
Finally made the trip in August and loved every minutes of it. It is hard to believe that
such a wonderful place was so close and I had not taken advantage of it. I can hardly wait
to get back!!

Just wanted to let you know that I LOVE your web site! It brings back many fond
memories I have of summers spent there. We wanted very much to purchase a seasonal
property there, but could never find one within our price range. We have not been back
there for a couple years but keep saying we will come back again soon. I hope you all
survived the Hurricane and took care of those great little ponies!

I had not visited Chincoteague since I was a child. My family and I visited in
the latter part of June of this year. We had a wonderful time and plan to make the journey
annually for relaxation and great fishing!

Our first visit to Chincoteague was prompted by the infamous story of Misty and a
desire by our six year old to see your island. We've returned several times since either
staying at rented houses or at the Refuge, and bringing several of our friends, many of
whom now make an annual trek. Our six year old just turned 21, and we continue to roam
your streets and shores. We'll be back in September - my parents are camping and we're
staying at the Refuge. We love it here, don't submit to commercialism or change, your
uniqueness is your draw, your legends are one of a kind, and your hospitality is genuine.
See you in September. Great web site, by the way.

How I yearn for distant shores and ponies roaming free! One of these days I will
be there. This is a wonderful site, full of information, not only of the ponies, but where
to stay, what to do, etc. How I long for Chincoteague! I posted this site into my
favorites, so I always have it close by.

We've visited your island several summers now. Unfortunately, due to a death in
the family, we were unable to vacation this summer, but are planning a late autumn trip to
your island. What can we expect in mid to late November as to the weather? We are planning
to check out real estate for sale during our trip, as we would like to relocate to
Chincoteague in the future. We've enjoyed each and every vacation we've had there!
[From the Webmaster: In November, the weather should be close to that in New
Jersey, except a few degrees warmer. Later in the winter when the ocean has cooled down,
temperatures are close to those on the mainland. The Services
section in the directory includes links to web sites of local real estate agents where you
can have an advance look at what's available. ]

What an informative web page! It was so easy to find what I wanted. Friends of
ours recommended the Beach Road Motel, but I had to check it out myself, so I started at
your web page and coninued from there. We tried a few of the restaurants. The Island
Family Restaurant got our vote for breakfast (lunch was good too). The Beach Road Motel
was all that our friends said. It was clean. The beds were comfortable. The pool was clean
and the managers were VERY helpful and friendly. Thank you for the great information
source.

This is a realy nice site that I would mention to people to come and see. I've
seen the commercials of Virginia on television. But it didn't really show its true beauty.
I have learnt alot about your Eastern Shores tonight and it is incredible.

My family and I have been visiting your island for the past ten or eleven years.
I have 17 members in my immediate family. We usually rent a couple of homes and spend a
week lying back and taking it easy. We have on occasion come as couples for a short
week-end. Love the island. We will be there next week for a stay as a family group.

We all have dreams we want to see come true one day. Mine is to live on
Chincoteague Island someday. It is the only place I have ever been where my soul, mind and
body feel at home all at the same time.
August 4, 1999
Jean & Ron Mirabile, Cromwell, CT
We have been coming to the Island since 1994. We like the fact that it is small,
homey, lots of friendly people, good food!! and a very restful atmosphere. The first trip
we made was right after my mom (Jean's) passed away, and the serenity and beauty of the
Island helped me to cope with it. It gave me the feeling of being healed and that life
does go on. We love the Island and will be back in September 1999.

Marilyn A. Miyasato, Fairfax, VA
We enjoyed our visit to see the Chincoteague ponies swim from Assateague.
Although it was a four hour wait, it was worth it to see them. Prior to the visit, we
contacted the chamber of commerce and were very happy with the hospitality. Thanks for a
wonderful experience.

My wife and I are looking forward to spending yet another vacation week with you,
your lovely and PEACEFUL island. I can hear the ocean calling me now!! I hope the weather
is cooperative at the end of August. We just missed "Bertha" a few years back,
she was on our tails as we were leaving. See Ya Then! Butchman & Peanut!! (Nice
Website!) Ps. We are staying at the Sea Shell again, Great Place!!

This is a fabulous website; I'm very impressed with all of the information

We have visited the island many times in the past three years and fell in love
with the place -- so much that we drove to Chincoteague and got married on May 1, 99. We
are going back again next week. Just can't stay away from there!

Many thanks to Margie for the information provided on the Pony Swim. She must
receive many calls from people like me who were making their first trip to Chincoteague.
Her warmth and professionalism, while answering questions she probably has answered
hundreds of times, were most appreciated. She is superb!

This is one of the most attractive and useful web sites I've seen. Good work. And
my husband and I will be coming in August for a reunion with friends -- we've all been
coming to Chincoteague for over 20 years now -- from Ohio, Maryland, Arkansas, and North
Carolina. It's a wonderful place for a very relaxing vacation. The food is always great;
the shops are wonderful, art work and so on. Thanks!

I love this site - it's alway nice to be in touch with the places you've grown
up. I grew up between the island and Cape Charles and a few more towns on the shore,
but i used to visit my grand dad Gladys McCready there. He's gone now but I miss him and
the island. Keep up the good work.

I have read many of the books concerning Chincotague Island and the horse swims,
etc. I have always wished that I could visit your island and see pony penning for myself.
Now we are coming your way, and I hope that I can convince my husband to allow us to
visit. Our daughter and I think you ought to put your web adderss at the back of your
stories so that the next generation of readers will know that they can "come" to
your island.

We recently returned from a five day visit to Chincoteague. We really loved both
Chincoteague and Assateague Islands. We stayed at the Beach Road Motel, which we
would highly reccomend! We will definitely return!

I will be arriving in Chincoteague on Fri. for 5 days and decided to prepare for
my visit with a visit to this web site. I found it very informative and easy to use. Since
I have worked in the tourism industry for 9 years I am anxious to see how well my trip
goes armed with the information gleaned from this site.

I love Chincoteague! We've been there many times and have nothing but happy
memories. The Landmark Crab House is our favorite restaurant. We always stay at the Island

My family has visited Chincoteague several times over the last 10 years. We have
taken more expensive and elaborate vacations but always return for the quaint hospitality
that makes us feel right at home.

We are coming back. Our list visit was such a memorable occasion for our 3 year
old son and 4 year old daughter, esp. the bike ride out to the lighthouse, that 4 years
later they have begged us to forego our usual trip to the Wildwoods, to return to
Chincoteague. Secretly, I had hoped their begging would sway their dad, who has a fondness
for the crowds at the Jersey Shore-men-go figure. But he relented and we will bet there on
July 16th. We will be staying for the first time at the Mariner Motel. In the past we have
stayed at the Sea Shell and we loved it, but we have outgrown the room with our family of
5 so we will see what the Mariner has to offer. Can't wait - see you then.

The web site is great. I am now able to see what events are happening in town so
that I can plan trips home to see my family and also have something planned for my kids to

It's just grand that you have a web site. My sons PJ & Sean love horses. PJ
wanted the book Misty from school book sales 5 years ago. Every night I would
read to them the story and promised one day we would go to Chincoteague to see the pony
roundup. We're coming this year! We live by Galveston and love the ocean; they've never
seen the Alantic yet - it'll be great. And one day soon we'll be back there to auction for
our own Misty (PJ wants to keep the pony in our backyard, kids!). Thanks for keeping the
tradition alive as well as maintaining that preserve so children can have dreams come
true!........Dad.

Hi, What a wonderful site! I've been looking for information on the 107 for a
short while now, and very excited to find such information right here. My father served on
this ship in 1939 as an Assistant Engineer for the Coast Guard. He was also in the Light
House Service before and served on the Tenders Violet, Speedwell, and Maple.

I visited Chincoteague and Assteague Island a couple of years ago for a very
short visit, and I am interested in staying for a week's vacation. My daughter and I loved
the sights and quaintness of the area. All the natural areas are a great interest to us.
Thanks for such a great spot.

Am from Virginia, but have not lived there since 1970. Plan to retire there in
near future. I am in love with Chincoteague...need I say more? Am coming for vacation in
July. Your hospitality is the finest. Always stay at Miss Molly's and hope to again.

My husband and I have been visiting Chincoteague every summer for the past 18
years. It wouldn't be summer to us without a week on the island. We are fortunate enough
that we can vacation anywhere, but choose Chincoteage each June. We love it!
May 31, 1999
Cyndi Irving, Berlin, MD
We began camping in Chincoteague 5 years ago. We bought a pop-up trailer and
enjoyed Maddox Campground as often as possible. Just this weekend we settled on the
purchase of a permanent site in Maddox. We love the "flavor" of Chincoteague;
great restaurants, wonderful beaches and friendly locals. I personally love to walk the
Wildlife Rufuge. I would like to join a bird watching club. Is that available?
It may seem strange to some to live only one hour away from your "second" home,
but for my husband and I it is perfect. I am a Rental Manager for O'Conor, Piper &
Flynn in Ocean City, Md. I love to get out of town, expecially this time of year!
Chincoteague offers families a look back into a time when I was a child. Family activies
and family values. I often tell my husband and daughter, "don't tell others about
Chincoteague, we want to keep it our secret". Thank you for the opportunity to enjoy
your town. We plan to take care of our little piece of Virginia.
May 27, 1999
Ann Rohrbach, Elverson, PA
This is one of the best web sites I've ever had the pleasure of visiting. It is
informative and interesting and, best of all, easy to use for someone like me who is not
"computer literate". I can hardly wait to visit the "real thing" in
June for a week! I hope you can provide the good weather. Thanks for a great
pre-view of my vacation!

John Fletcher, Bolivar, NY
My family and I have been visiting your island since the early '80's and really
enjoy your town. I'm concerned this year to hear the limit on flounder has increased to 16
inches. We well still enjoy the fishing but keepers are going to be few and far between.
Well at least we stiil have the beach.look forward to coming down again this year, which
will be the week prior to and including July 4th.
May 20, 1999
John Hozey, Ketchikan, Alaska
Bravo! This is a wonderful website. I work in municipal government here in Alaska
and can appriciate the challenges of marketing a community. I grew up on the east coast
and have been going to Chincoteague since before I can remember. It's really great to
browse your site to get the feeling of a virtual visit. I will be bringing my family back
east this summer for a REAL visit during pony penning, and we can't wait to get there. So,
again, I just wanted to say I've enjoyed your website, and keep up the good work.
May 17, 1999
Edward Anderton Kritzer, Lexington, VA
Enjoyed the web page. My grandfather - John Lawson Anderton - was the principle
keeper of Assateage light for many years. A street on Chincoteague is now named for him.

Cammie Macdonald, Flint, MI
I have visited your Island on 3 occasions and enjoyed it very much. So much that
I'll be coming back next summer to see pony penning for the first time!!
May 14, 1999
John Anderson, Annapolis, MD
My father has a place on the Island and no where did I read a warning for
visitors of the mosquito and "No-Sees" problem.
[From the Webmaster: A good point. I'll add a note on some of the frequently visited
pages that there are mosquitoes and gnats on the barrier islands in the summer.
Chincoteague sprays for mosquitoes, both from trucks on the ground and from low-flying
planes in the summer, so the mosquito population is to some extent controlled. But because
Assateague Island is a Refuge for a variety of birds and wildlife, spraying is not a
practice there, and a repellent is a summer "must."]

Barbara Knick, Grottoes, VA
Just returned from a two day stay on your island. This was an unexpected visit,
as we planned to go to Virginia Beach. We got on Bay-Bridge Tunnel and just kept driving.
This was the best weekend trip we have taken. We are planning a week trip this fall. The
people of your town were extremely helpful and friendly. It was just like being at home.
If you have some type of written information/travel guide, please send. Thanks to your
town for a great weekend.

Reading the article in Southwest Airline's flight magazine brought back memories
of the book Misty of Chincoteague which I read, of course, as a child. I'm now
thinking about coming for the pony swim this summer. What a treat it would be.

We love Chingoteague, especially in June and August. If you could list hotel
accomodations or places that are "pet friendly," it would be appreciated. We
have stayed at the Sea Tag and at Bayside Apartments. Are there any more places that
accept pets? If you could get back to us in the near future or post this on your web site,
it would be of great service.

I enjoyed visiting your website. It was easy to get around and contained useful

I had a one-day occasion to visit Assateague several years ago and always wanted
to come back. This year, I have arranged to spend an entire week in your beautiful region.
I look forward to seeing the islands, and enjoying the hospitality of your town. I can't
think of many places more beautiful that I have been too.
April 9, 1999
Ms. Mary Hunt, Hurt, VA
This is a very well put together web page. While browsing on the net looking for
interesting places to go I came across this page by accident, but now that I have viewed
what attractions you have to offer I am hoping to get a chance to come and visit what
seems to be a beautiful place. I hope it is a great experience for my fiance and I when we
visit your Island this year. Any information about any jazz concerts, nature trails would
greatly be appreciated.
[From the Webmaster: Haven't heard of any jazz concerts planned yet, but about
15 miles of nature trails are available on the Chincoteague Refuge (Assateague Island next
to Chincoteague); also the Assateague beach is nice for hiking. On the Refuge, the
Woodland trail leads to an overlook where you can sometimes see the ponies; the Wildlife
Loop stretches around the large Snow Goose Pool, and a trail leads from the Loop to the
beach; other trails are also present. In addition, there is a short trail leading to the lighthouse. For biking, a bike path
leads from the town of Chincoteague to the Refuge trails - half of which are paved,
including the Wildlife Loop and Woodland Trail. Bikes can be rented on Chincoteague.
Finally, the Wildlife Loop is open to cars after 3 p.m. each day. The Assateague map will give you some idea of the
layout.]

I am a student at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virgina. I am doing a
research paper on your beautiful island! We are studying different dialects in Virginia. I
found your web page very imformative and helpful towards my research. I wish I had the
time to visit Chincoteague Island. I would have loved to hear how the islanders talk. I
have a presentation March 23 at 7:10 p.m., so wish me luck. I do have writings of dialects
from Chincoteague that will provide how the islanders speak. Thanks again! Your web page
is great!

I love to come and see the birds in the late fall. The refuge is so wonderful and
the beach is so quiet at that time of year. The waves splash on the shore, my husband and
I walk hand in hand yet there is rarely anyone else around. I really can not wait to see
the refuge again.

Such an informative web site. I'm sure that everything that is possible will be
done to keep the area from being spoiled like so much of our lands are today. I feel very
blessed to have a 7 yr old Chincoteague, he is my best friend. Bless all of you up there.

This is the most wonderful place to visit. The character of the island and
Chincoteague is so relaxed and you feel like you are truly relaxed and entertained while
visiting. The food is wonderful at all the restaurants -- and don't forget Mr. Whippy
after a long hot day on the beach! It is ritual that the kids go by on the way back from
the beach for ice cream. We look forward to seeing you Easter weekend!
March 8, 1999
Gerald Fuller, Henderson, NC
Web site is great. We are coming to Chincoteague the weekend of April 9-11, and
just looking at the web site has us truly excited, anticipating a great vacation. If there
any events of significance during that time period, please let me know by mail or e-mail.
We will be staying at Island Manor House. Thank you.

area would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
[From the Webmaster: Usually, the staff in the Chamber office send such information on
request. You should receive something soon.]

I really enjoyed your site. I am originally from NC and have loved to read about
the Chincoteague ponies in "Misty" since I was
a little girl. I have since married and am finishing up school so that I can become an
elementary school teacher. I will recommend this site to my students and perhaps use it in
a lesson when I get the chance.

I'd like to thank you for being on the internet. I think your Web-site is one of
the most beautiful ones I've visited. I, of course, am one of the many women, who as young
girls, read the "Misty" stories. Within in the last few years I've become
captivated by the East coast. I hope to vacation there soon and would appreciate any
information you might be able to send me. Thank you very much.

Wonderful homepage--we plan to visit this fall--1999--while we are doing family
research in Delvarva area. Have always been intrigued by the ponies. It's a wonderul
story.

First, I have to commend you on the website. It is user friendly, informative and
VERY pleasing to the eye. Second, I am investigating the possibility of relocating to
Chincoteague. I grew up in VA and now have two daughters. I am planning to visit in March
(hopefully). Do you have any suggestions for someone considering relocating? or comments?
Many thanks for your time. I am rather pressed for time as I need to relocate this
summer in between the children's school time. Thank you again.

My wife and I visited for the very first time this last summer 1998. We loved it.
We visited again in September of 1998 with some friends and we all loved it. We camped
both times and the location was wonderful. My wife and I are celebrating our 35th wedding
anniversary in Feb. of 1999 and we want to come a stay in either one of your motels or
B&B's on the Island. We are thinking at this point of the possibility of retiring to
Chincoteague.

I would like to receive some information about vacationing here, specifically
during the end of July for the Fireman's pony swim. Thank you.
[From the webmaster - The Fire Company won't publish detailed info for a while yet. At
the moment, we have only the dates posted in the Events-July section at the web site.]

We are planning a trip in June1999 to Williamsburg and would love to come over to
Chincoteague. Could you advise us as to how far you are from Williamsburg, should we plan
to stay over in Chicoteague, and is there another way to get to Washington DC from
Chincoteague...as that is our next destination..? Also, can we see the wild horses in
June? My 9 yr old is hoping to see them. Any help would be appreciated. thanks
[From the webmaster - Williamsburg is about 2 1/2 hours drive from Chincoteague, so it
might be easiest to get a room on the island for the visit (it's best to reserve in
advance in June). You'll cross the Bay-Bridge-Tunnel - which is an experience in itself.
To get to Washington from Chincoteague, you follow Route 13 north to Salisbury, MD, take
the Salisbury by-pass to Route 50 and then head east to the bridge over Chesapeake Bay.
The drive to Washington is three to 3 1/2 hours. In June, you'll probably see the horses
off in the marshes on Assateague Island (next to Chincoteague). A couple of the motels
have their own horses for close-up visiting - you might ask when you reserve a room or
check the motel web sites for this. If your 9-year-old likes deer, the Sika elks (which
look like deer) usually station themselves along the main road on Assateague, as do the
Canada Geese that live year-round on Assateague.]

We came to the pony penning last year and absolutely loved it. We are coming back
in 1999. Can't wait for a long relaxing week on your beautiful island!!!
